How God Bridge the Generation Gap Between the Aged and Youth

In God infinite wisdom, he commanded the church to treat the elder women as mothers; the elder men as fathers; the younger women as sisters, and the younger men as brothers. Jesus, softly rebuked his disciples when they attempted to separate little children from him, themselves, and the company of older people that was in their midst by saying: "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not because such is the kingdom of God".

Wisdom and common sense is lacking in youth of today because of walls of "youth programs" that are prevalent in churches in these last days that was not in the early churches. The elder/older saints are a wealth of encouragement, strenth, and comfort for children, teenagers, young adults, and young married couples. They have the avenue and willingness to bridge "gaps" in history to connect the present making it relevant to the youth of the day.

A "generation gap" is only due to one not knowing and understanding how the present/future is linked directly to the past of those who lived it.

The only clue in the scriptures that I can find is in verse 47 of Acts 10. Here Peter asks who can withhold water for baptizing them? Because they have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.
This would indicate that Peter was talking to the people who came with him. They were there witnessing the chain of events leading up to the baptism of the first Gentiles. I would assume that they were there as witnesses that could affirm the events to other Jews. However, this is just a guess but hopefully an educated one.

What is the significance of the 6 men from Joppa that Peter brought with him to the house of Cornelius in Acts chapter 10? Is there any significance? Was it for protection, or for eye witnesses that were Jews? What do you think?

Phenomenal! I love seeing sound book choices displayed like this. Especially, because I am not sure who is out there and what books other than the Bible that would help increase my knowledge, faith, and understanding of how I be a servant of Christ.

What exactly does the Bible define as "fellowship"?

I have heard many different views lately and wanted to know what you thought.

1. Fellowship is only possible to have with others, if you have it with God.

2. Fellowship is NOT the act of studying the bible together.

It seems to me that I have no clear definition of fellowship as the Bible describes it.

What do you think?

This message is saying God is in control. We don't have to understand it, just accept it and know that He will not lead us astray. I always think of Jer 10:23 "O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps." That's just it, it is not up to us to know everything, leave that up to God.

I am glad you enjoyed the lesson.
1. I agree that creation is usually the best place to begin. However, I disagree that the essence of woman was removed from man. God creates out of nothing. Man was created from dust but had a different character. It was not good for man to be alone. Woman is described as a help meet or helper. Women are told to submit in Eph 5 but not to obey as children are. F. Lagard Smith in Male Spiritual Leadership has a good explanation of this. Submission involves equals and obeying involves non-equals. So women are equal in everything including salvation but different in roles. When we look at the "traditional" attributes of men "justice and logic" and add to it the "traditional" attributes of women "mercy and compassion" you get a full image of God. God is the perfect combination of justice and mercy, etc.

2. As a man, I tend to look at the fall as the failure of Adam (the man) to do what he was supposed to do. Adam was there (Gen 3:6) and he didn't protect his wife, he wasn't the leader he was supposed to be, and he ate. When God came into the garden, He called for Adam, not Eve, and Adam tried to pass the blame. So Eve will answer for being deceived by the serpent and her own desires. Adam will answer for not being a spiritual leader and protecting Eve AND for eating the fruit. I don’t understand the “unnatural desire” comment. The attraction between a husband and wife is God given, natural, and good (God made it). Song of Solomon is a celebration of marital love. Could you clarify?
3. I love that God chose to include the good and bad of the people who are recorded in the Bible. I am imperfect (obviously) and when I fail, I need to know that God forgives, He cares, and even the men and women of great faith fail. The only real failure is when we don’t get back up and continue the walk with Jesus. David did lose sight of God, but when confronted by Nathan he repented and took responsibility for his actions.

Thanks again for your comments. They are very encouraging, and I enjoy hearing from other students of the Scriptures.

1. i like how you went back to the begining :) . God created a man and into this man God Breath into this flesh a living soul . Obviously man would find himself alone after enumerating the animals, and would see that while the had a mate or counter part he did not. Its's also telling that God took from within a man a helpmeet or as is explaned the other half of man. i understand that then before hand man was half man half woman since she was separated from him.
2. The whole collapse of mankind happened in the Fall when the Serpent came to the woman and seduced her into the pride of flesh, life and a fruit that would make one wise and ( able to Judge ) like God. i also see that by offering this fruit to Adam she was putting herself over him so that he would eat from her hand so to speak and the Serpent Satan had done this so that he could rule them both and could continue to try and control man thru his thus Unnatural love for his wife. it is interesting and apprapriate that in the new testament Adam is the one who brought sin into the world and not Evewhich implies if he had turned down the Gift than sin would not have entered , and thus Jesus a man born of woman but not of man has lived a perfect life and taken away our sins.
3. i lo e your example of king David and his strenght, interesting that he had more of God in him than Adam did because he was stronger, and while his brothers had no faith and even the (Large ) King Saul yet David was filled with God's spirit and was unafraid of a giant .And he only became weak when he became enticed by the things of this world thru Pride ,then he lost the peace and the way that he had had earlier in his life, but though he payed for his mistakes he never lost the spirit of God and his love.

Thank you for your comment. I agree I am not a god! and I think I struggle with this problem because I forget who I am. I am just a man. I am equal to other people. So I can't be annoyed, but I have to act out of loving concern whenever I can. We can be angry and not sin if we prevent unrighteous anger from directing our actions. You are right, the righteous anger that Jesus felt in the temple resulted in righteous action. He never got angry when someone attacked him only when they attacked God.

You are right self righteous judgment endangers our soul. Judgment is a hard thing. We discussed this in the bible class I taught this morning. We can never judge the eternal destiny of someone's soul (we have neither the authority or the knowledge). However, we are told to judge actions and results of actions. We are told in the Sermon on the Mount (Matt 7:15-20) to judge the fruits of someone. This requires us to see if the result of someone's actions result in God being glorified and people drawing closer to him or if the result is division (not based on truth) and apostasy. We are required to judge actions. I have to decide whether I should do something or not (this is the least controversial because it is me). I have to decide whether someone else is sinning so that I can help them (Jude 22 & 23, James 5:19, Matt 7:5, Gal 6:1, etc.). Now Matt 7:1-5 speaks to self righteous judgment. So at the end I have to judge righteous judgment ( John 7:24). Just because so many people do it incorrectly doesn't mean it shouldn't be done correctly.

:) So why would you be annoyed ( are you a god who is being put down ) , the Bible says be angry and sin not so how does a man do that ? it's impossible i can only think of one time when Christ was angry and he was not angry like man , he didn't act like a (man of this world ) when he drove the money changers from the temple. i like your article :) Jesus said he didn't judge but instead let GOD Judge . We (men of this world ) judge with a self rightoeus judgement and destroy our own souls by doing it ..:(
